Filed in: Surfboard Questions | On: May 4th, 2008 | Comments: (27) I recently received a question from a surfer. What is the retail value of a vintage signed Gerry Lopez lighting bolt surfboard in great condition? Does anyone have any idea? I know it’s hard to tell without a photo and much details…I”ll see if they can send some over for me to post. I guess it does matter what it’s condition is, if it’s been restored, who shaped it, when, etc. If anyone knows anything please post a comment below. Mahalo. Updated, just got more information about the board: Attached photos of board. 7′ 6″ yellow lighting nolt. A pure source TM. It is numbered, however resin was attached over number for an ankle strap. Part of the number is visible – 898. Mahalo for your help. 27 Comments »By participating in online discussions you acknowledge that you have read and agreed to the TERMS OF SERVICE. I bought it from Woody Styron of wrightsville beach 1975.Woody past away early in a boating accident,He was a man to admire through his contribution to surfing. If you did sell it savor the fact that you once had a piece of contemporary art which the real value is yet to be decided. andy, on January 24, 2009 @ 7:44 pm |6000.00 is real steep check vintage surf auction great place for classics, if you are looking for a 9’3 1963 hansen please contact Edgar, on April 2, 2009 @ 5:45 am |I want to know if there is some body that still have a surf board color black lighting bolt by jerry lopez.this kind of surf board only made 100 in all the world in 1981 or 1982 thank you!!! It was bright green with red bolt on the deck. Don’t even want to say how little I let it go for.but hopefully it’s hanging on the wall there still north of coffs harbour nsw. rickey lopez, on March 30, 2012 @ 2:50 pm |A frend of mine baught a black lightning bolt back in the late 70s early 80s new for 250.00 cocoa beach. I just watch randy rarick sell one at auction for 50.000 on one of these sites were on here, can,t rember look arround. If you get the chance to ride make sure do. Their weight forward shape make a great down the line ride. with weight foeward boards you can beat the foam ball out because of the forward weight speed. One of the reasons he rode pipe so well. i,m haveing one built the same way with todays bottoms. gets into waves much easyer when your boards moveing foward faster. Give it a try. They werrent one of the best selling boards just because they had his name on it. They really worked. The Ed tree, on May 25, 2012 @ 1:37 am |For Luke’s info the guy at the site you mentioned wluldn’t know his ass from his elbow. That site is a perfect example of how the net can mislead! it’s a lopez model not shaped by gerry lopez, they would use a rice paper laminate for the signature. check out http://www.vintagebolt.com
i would say you could probably get $450 but that’s just a guess… if anyone knows who shaped them please post!
