Previously, Rusty had been shaping surfboards for Canyon. During his somewhat low key years, he shaped board for 10 of the top 16 surfers in the world which included Mark Occhilupo and Shaun Tomson. One day, former world champion Peter Townend suggested that Rusty develop his own surfobard label and so the R-dot was created. Rusty has since become one of the surfboard manufacturing world’s icons with a surfboard production near 15,000 annually. The company however, claims that their Rusty brand is still grassroots through its successful custom surfboard offerings. Rusty’s communication and feedback with team riders and shapers along with his innovation in surf design has helped accelerate the evolution of modern surf design. The company has been at the forefront of CAD surf design and experimentation of composite materials with companies like Surftech, Aviso, and Salomon. The Rusty team features a wide variety of fresh and experienced world class surfers. A few of those surfers include former World Champion Derek Ho, Pipeline specialist Kalani Chapman, Santa Cruz big wave hellman Flea Virostko, Josh Kerr, and “Freak Show” Jamie O’brien. Recent News: Rusty was recently sold to the Australian licensee Geoff Backshall of Rusty Australia. 6 Comments »By participating in online discussions you acknowledge that you have read and agreed to the TERMS OF SERVICE. Maybe a lime green color instead of the no color white.Or maybe a surftech style wood lamnett or blasa.Athough I want to surf this board not hang it on a wall and balsa is probally is way out of my price range.Anyway Ill look forward to hearing from you guy’s.By the way I bought my board at Wise in San Francisco. The best shop in Nor Cal.Latter Robert… Mirko Lacchini, on January 6, 2010 @ 6:54 pm |Hi, I live in China, Sz. Is there anywhere I can get one of your boards here. Or the only way is order online? Nev Ermind, on February 20, 2010 @ 7:37 pm |Just once, I wanted a custom board. Decided Rusty would be a good pick. Rusty would be a good choice if you want a reproduction of a board that they already have/make. Rusty is not a good pick for CUSTOM boards. The communication with each other could not have been much worse. I imagine the sales rep you speak with needs to convey the info to 2 or 3 others in order to get things right. The custom order form you fill out seems to fall on blind eyes or none at all. Still make a great board but very little care for the “custom ” individual. Unhappy Customer, on June 16, 2010 @ 12:16 pm |About ten years ago my wife gave me a gift certificate for a Rusty Surfboard. When I contacted Rusty, I requested a longboard. The represenative stated Rusty had no longboards in stock and I would have to settle for a 7’6″. Well, the surfboard has collected dust in the garage because the board is not the right board for me. I recently contacted Rusty in hopes of working out some type of deal…trade…discount for a long board. (The 7’6″ is in perfect shape…only surfed once.) Rusty stated in words to the effect…you are sol. I guess Rusty does not believe in customer service or goodwill. Leave a comment |
