Keola Rapoza was born and raised in Makaha on Oahu’s west side. An accomplished surfer as well as shaper, Rapoza had been working for Town & Country Surfboards for several years and shaped T&C ‘s only Surftech epoxy longboard, dubbed the K Star. His progressive longboards have been tested to their limits from Pipeline to Ala Moana Bowls by top Hawaii surfers including Kekoa Uemura, one of Hawaii’s top up and coming pro longboarders.
Rumor has it that T&C cut the majority of their surfboard shapers and Rapoza has since started a new surfboard company called Home Grown. The company claims to be the only surfboard manufacturer producing environmentally friendly surfboards.
Tommy Tanaka, son of the late respected Hawaiian shaper Ernie Tanaka, grew up in Santa Monica, California but moved back to Hawaii to live with his dad during high school. He started off body boarding Waikiki and then progressed to surfing. Soon he was competing in summer contests and won Hawaii’s biggest longboard contest, China’s Uemura’s Annual Longboard Contest.

Andy Irons with his Tokoro at the 2006 Pipeline Masters
Wade Tokoro, along with brother Kerry, are probably surfing’s most famous brother/shaper combo today. Wade’s boards are some of the most popular here in Hawaii being ridden by legions of shortboarders and numerous big name touring pros who come to the North Shore every winter season. Some of the bigger names seen riding Tokoro boards include Andy Irons (won 2006 Pipeline Masters on a Tokoro shape), Sunny Garcia, and Jamie O’Brien to name a few. Tokoro, who hails from the East side of Oahu, arguably demonstrates the best surfing ability of all surfboard shapers. You’ll often find him charging 2nd reef Pipe and air dropping into a heaving Teahupoo pit.

We believe that every surfer is truly unique; no one surfs with the same grace or flair. Therefore, every surfer wants something different in the size, shape, and style of their board. We do not offer any “models” or ready-made shapes and styles. Rather, we prefer to deal one-on-one with each individual surfer. We want your experience to be one where you truly feel that this is YOUR board. Every board that bears the Walk Fantastic name has passed through the hands of all three shapers; with each of us putting our own slice of soul into the final board. |
