Tips on Turning That Old Board Into Cash
Selling
your surfboard can be quite a pain. While surfers frequently
shed their old sticks in search of cash and a new quiver before
the summer and winter seasons, there are a few things you can
do to make sure you have cash for that new board:
1 . Scrape Off Crusty Wax - Most surfers
don't ever replace the first coat of wax they put on their new
stick. Old wax makes your board look cheap and and dirty so
do yourself a favor and scrape off the wax.
2. Repair Your Dings - No one wants to
buy a beater board with 50 dings and tail cancer. Take some
time to patch all your dings and be sure to sand them over.
Most novice surfers still haven't gotten the hang of sanding
their patch jobs. Bottom line - make your board look 'pretty'
just like you do before your big date. But whatever you do,
don't try and hide dings with stickers because the buyer will
rip that sticker off before he hands over the dough.
3. Take a Photo - The old saying "A picture's
worth a thousand words" can't be more true. Boards with
photos ALWAYS sell faster so get off your ass and learn how
to use your girlfriend's digital camera.
4. Give Your Bro a Deal. Longboards, funboards,
and fishes are always in high demand and low supply which means
a decent chunk of change. However, the high supply and low demand
for shortboards makes it a buyer's market so keep in mind these
are always the hardest to sell. Another thing to consider is
that brand name shortboards always sell faster i.e. Tokoro,
Al Merrick, T&C, etc. Lastly, don't be a kook and try to
get the price you paid last summer...these things don't have
the same re-sale value as Toyotas do. Offer your bro a good
deal on your old stick and you'll be sure to get some good karma
waves.
